The Kennel Board day to day

Sidebar: Reservations → Kennel Board.
This is the screen to leave open on the kennel computer. It shows your rooms and who is in them, so "which run is Bella in" is answered by looking rather than searching.
The shape of a boarding day
- Arrivals. Check each pet in as it comes through the door. This is what turns a booking into a pet that is physically present.
- During the stay. Feeding and medication happen from their own screens — see Feeding and medication schedules.
- Departures. Check each pet out as it leaves, then take payment.
Check in and check out are not optional bookkeeping
They drive everything else:
- A pet not checked in does not appear as present, so your staff list of who is actually in the building is wrong.
- A pet not checked out still counts against capacity, so a full-looking day may not be full.
- Check-out is what closes the stay for billing.
The most common boarding data problem is a stay left checked in for days after the pet went home, which quietly blocks a run and distorts occupancy.
Reservation statuses
| Status | Means |
|---|---|
| Requested | The client asked, you have not confirmed |
| Confirmed | Booked and expected |
| Checked in | The pet is with you now |
| Checked out | The stay is finished |
| Cancelled | Called off |
| No-show | Did not arrive |
Requested matters if you take online bookings — those arrive needing your confirmation, and a requested reservation nobody looks at is a client who thinks they have a booking when they do not. Check the Reservations list daily for them.
Assigning rooms
Assign a pet to a specific room from the board. Useful in practice for:
- Keeping two dogs from the same household together
- Keeping a reactive dog away from a busy walkway
- Knowing where to go when an owner rings
If you do not use named rooms, you can work from group totals alone and skip assignment entirely.
When the board looks wrong
- A pet is missing — the reservation is probably still Requested, or was never checked in.
- A run shows occupied but is empty — a previous stay was never checked out.
- Numbers do not match the Occupancy Calendar — the calendar counts what is booked, the board shows what is physically here. They differ exactly when check-in or check-out has been skipped.
Working the board with staff
The board is visible to your team, not just managers. Front-desk staff checking pets in and out as they happen keeps it accurate; a manager tidying it up at the end of the day does not, because by then nobody remembers who left when.
