The app looks out of date or is behaving oddly
Updated
On this page
Alaga keeps a copy of itself on each device so it opens fast. The catch is that a device can keep running an older copy for a while after we release a change.
That is what is happening when a new feature is missing for you, or the screen looks a bit wrong.
The update prompt
When a new version is ready, an Update available box appears at the bottom of the screen. It says "A new version of Alaga is ready."
- Finish what you are typing.
- Click Update.
- Wait a few seconds while the page reloads.
Alaga checks for a new version when you open it, every hour, and each time you come back to a tab you left in the background.
Clicking the X hides the box. The update still waits in the background and installs the next time you click Update or fully close Alaga.
A page won't open after an update
Sometimes a page can't open because your copy is too old. Alaga then clears the old copy and reloads on its own.
If you see Something went wrong, click Try Again. If it keeps happening, follow the steps below.
Forcing an update
If you have not seen a prompt and something looks wrong, try these in order. Most problems stop at step 1.
- Hard reload the page. On Windows press Ctrl+F5. On a Mac press Cmd+Shift+R.
- Close every Alaga tab, then open Alaga again. The old copy is only replaced once every tab is shut. One tab left open in another window can keep the old version running all day. This is the step people skip.
- On a tablet or phone, close the app fully. Swipe it away from the recent-apps list, then open it again.
- Last resort: clear the site data for app.alaga.io in your browser settings. You will be signed out. Your business data is not stored on the device, so nothing is lost.
Station Mode devices
Shared station devices update themselves.
- While the station is locked, it installs a waiting update on its own and comes back to the locked PIN screen.
- While someone has it unlocked, it does not reload by itself. The prompt says the update "installs when the station locks." Clicking Update right away works too, but you will need to enter your PIN again.
- If an unlocked station hits a page that needs the new version, it shows A new version is available. Tap Reload and enter your PIN again.
What this cannot cause
An old copy changes how the app looks, not what is true. Appointments, clients, invoices and payments are stored on our servers, and every device reads the same records.
If a booking is missing, an invoice is wrong, or a payment has not shown up, reloading will not fix it. Look elsewhere for the cause.
One exception: a very old copy can make a button fail with an unclear error. If a button does nothing, try the steps above once before reporting it.
Shared computers
A front-desk computer that stays signed in for weeks is the most likely device to be running something old. If one machine acts differently from the rest, that is almost always why. Close Alaga on it fully once a week.
Still wrong after a hard reload?
Then it is not an old copy. Click Get help in the sidebar and tell us what you did, what you expected, and what happened. Mention that you already did a hard reload.
