Switching from Gingr, DaySmart or MoeGo

On this page
Moving platforms is mostly about timing, not technology. The work is asking for your export early and picking a good cut-over date. The loading is done for you.
Read Importing your existing clients, pets and history first. It covers what transfers and what does not.
Getting your data out
Ask for a full backup or full data export, and ask early.
- DaySmart Pet — ask DaySmart support for a full backup, rather than exporting reports from inside the product. Allow several days.
- Gingr — ask their support team for a full data export.
- MoeGo — ask for a full export of clients, pets and appointment history.
- Anything else — ask the same way. If they only offer report downloads, send those and we will tell you what we can recover. Expect less than from a full backup.
It is your business's data. If a provider is slow, keep asking in writing, and leave extra time before your renewal date.
A sensible timeline
Two to three weeks is comfortable:
- Week 1 — ask for the export. While you wait, set up Alaga: business profile and hours, services and prices, team members.
- Week 2 — send us the export. Check the loaded data against your old system carefully.
- Week 3 — pick a cut-over date. We take a final export to catch anything new. Stop booking in the old system on that date, and connect payments.
Avoid cutting over in your busiest week, or the day before a holiday.
Differences that catch people out
- Client messages start switched off. New accounts send no confirmations, reminders or follow-ups until you switch them on. This stops an import from emailing years of old clients on day one. Switch them on once your data looks right, under Business Settings, then Customer Notifications.
- Texts are switched on separately, and each client must have agreed. Opt-outs from your old system come across. Appointment-text consent may come across for established clients. Marketing text consent never does. See Text messages: consent, compliance and what gets sent.
- Texts come from Alaga's number, (844) 979-1388, not your old system's number. Tell clients so they recognise it.
- Stored cards do not transfer. Each client enters a card the first time they pay through Alaga.
- Boarding is set up, not imported. Rooms, capacity and rates are set up in Alaga.
- How much history comes across depends on your old system's export. Keep read-only access to the old system for your accountant.
Before you close the old account
Once you cancel, the data usually goes. Download and keep:
- Signed agreements and waivers
- Vaccination certificates and pet documents
- Financial reports for every year you need for taxes
- Your full client list as a plain spreadsheet, as a backup
Do this before you cancel.
Telling your clients
Send a short note a few days before cut-over. Say three things: your booking link is changing, texts will come from a new number, and they will be asked to enter their card once more.
Your booking link is under Business Settings, then Customer Portal. Put it in your email signature, on your website and on your social profiles on cut-over day.
