The End of Day report and closing out

Sidebar: Reports, then End of Day.
This is the close-out — a till roll for the whole business. Run it at the end of trading, before anyone goes home, while discrepancies can still be explained by someone standing in the room.
What it shows
- Totals by payment type — cash, card, cheque, bank transfer, other
- Tips owed, by employee — who is due what
- Refunds issued that day
- Cash drawer reconciliation, with over or short
The day is your day
Totals are bucketed by your business timezone, not the browser's. A payment taken at 11pm belongs to that day's trading wherever the person running the report happens to be. Late-evening businesses and anyone checking figures while travelling can rely on the day meaning what they think it means.
The cash drawer
The drawer only reconciles if it was used properly:
- Open the drawer at the start of the shift with an opening balance.
- Record safe drops during the day.
- Close the drawer at the end, entering your counted total.
Alaga compares the count against what it expected and tells you whether you are balanced, over or short.
Cash sales only join a drawer session if a drawer is open. Take cash without opening one and it is recorded as revenue but never reconciled — so a drawer that "doesn't balance" is usually a drawer that was never opened.
When it does not balance
In rough order of likelihood:
- The drawer was opened late, so early cash sales are outside the session.
- A safe drop was not recorded.
- The opening balance was wrong or guessed.
- Change was taken from the drawer for something else — coffee, a taxi — without a record.
- A payment was rung up under the wrong type — card recorded as cash.
Small, consistent shorts point at process. A single large one points at a specific transaction, and the day's list is short enough to find it.
Tips
Tips are shown per employee so you know exactly what to hand over. Card tips arrive with the card payment, so the money is in your account before you pay it out — see Tips: how they are captured and paid out.
Making it a habit
Run it daily, even on a quiet day. The value is in the pattern: you cannot tell whether being £8 short is normal without a fortnight of days that were not. Businesses that only look when something feels wrong have nothing to compare against.
Also worth knowing: End of Day is about trading, not about money reaching your bank. Payouts run on the processor's schedule and are reconciled separately under Payment Settings → Payouts.
