# Switching from Gingr, DaySmart or MoeGo
Moving platforms is mostly a scheduling exercise, not a technical one. The work is in ordering your export early and picking a sensible cut-over date; the loading itself is done for you.

Read *Importing your existing clients, pets and history* first — it covers what transfers and what does not, and that applies whichever system you are leaving.

## Getting your data out

Ask for a **full backup or full data export**, and ask early.

- **DaySmart Pet** — request a full backup from DaySmart support rather than exporting from inside the product. It is not instant; allow several days.
- **Gingr** — request a full data export from their support team.
- **MoeGo** — request a full export of clients, pets and appointment history.
- **Anything else** — the request is the same. If they offer only per-report CSVs, send us those and we will tell you what can be recovered from them, but expect less to survive than from a proper backup.

You are entitled to your own business data. If a provider is slow or unhelpful, keep asking in writing and give yourself more runway before your renewal date.

## A sensible timeline

Two to three weeks is comfortable:

1. **Week 1** — request the export. While you wait, set up Alaga: business profile, hours, services and prices, team members.
2. **Week 2** — send us the export. Review the loaded data against your old system carefully.
3. **Week 3** — pick a cut-over date, stop booking in the old system on that date, and connect payments.

Avoid cutting over in your busiest week, and avoid the day before a holiday.

## Differences that catch people out

Every platform makes different assumptions. These are the ones that generate the most first-week questions:

- **Client messages start switched off.** New Alaga accounts do not send confirmations, reminders or follow-ups to clients until you turn them on. This stops an import from mailing three years of dormant clients on day one. Turn them on deliberately once your data looks right, under **Business Settings → Notifications**.
- **Text messages are separately opt-in**, both for you and for each client. Consent does not transfer from your old system, because consent was given to that provider, not to Alaga. Clients opt in again.
- **Stored cards do not transfer.** No provider can hand card details to another. The first payment each client makes through Alaga re-enters a card.
- **Your financial history stays behind.** Alaga's reports start from your go-live date. Keep read-only access to the old system for your accountant.
- **Boarding and daycare are configured, not imported.** Runs, capacity and rates are set up in Alaga.

## Before you close the old account

Once you cancel, the data usually goes. Download and keep:

- Signed agreements and waivers
- Vaccination certificates and any pet documents
- Pet photos
- Financial reports for every year you need to keep for tax
- Your full client list as a plain spreadsheet, as a belt-and-braces backup

Do this **before** you cancel, not during the cancellation.

## Telling your clients

Send a short note a few days before cut-over. The three things worth saying: your booking link is changing, they will be asked to enter their card once more, and their history is safe.

Your booking address is on **Customer Portal** in the sidebar. Put it in your email signature, on your website and in your social profiles on cut-over day.
