# Feeding and medication schedules

## It starts on the pet record

Feeding and medication details belong to the **pet**, not to the booking. On the pet's profile you record how often it eats, how much, what food, any dietary restrictions, feeding instructions, and its medications.

Set this once and every future stay inherits it. Entering it per booking is the slow way and drifts out of date.

## Confirm it at check-in

Check-in prompts you to confirm feeding arrangements with the owner. Do not skip past this — it is the moment the owner is standing in front of you and can tell you the food changed, or that the dog is now on tablets twice a day.

A stay where feeding was never confirmed is where "he didn't eat all week" conversations come from.

## The daily schedules

The Feeding and Medication screens turn all that into a day's work, split into **Morning (Breakfast)**, **Afternoon (Lunch)** and **Evening (Dinner)** slots, showing each pet, the amount and any instructions. Pets with dietary restrictions are flagged.

Work down the slot, log each one as you go.

## Logging

Log as you do it, not at the end of the shift. The record is only worth having if it reflects reality, and it is your evidence if an owner questions care later.

Feeding can be logged as more than a yes/no — whether the pet ate everything, most, some or little. That detail is genuinely useful: a dog eating less each day is the earliest sign something is wrong, and it is the thing owners most want to hear about at pick-up.

## Medication

Medication is logged the same way, from its own screen. Two habits worth enforcing:

- **Log the dose at the time it is given**, by the person who gave it.
- **If a dose is missed or refused, record that too.** A gap in the log is ambiguous; a recorded refusal is information.

## Kennel Tasks

**Reservations → Kennel Tasks** brings feeding, medication and other care tasks into one list. It is the better screen for a member of staff working through a round, where Feeding and Medication are better when you want one kind of task across all pets.

Both write to the same record, so it does not matter which you use.

## Common problems

- **A pet has no feeding tasks.** Its pet record has no feeding schedule. Add it there.
- **Tasks appear for a pet that has gone home.** The stay was not checked out.
- **Instructions are out of date.** They are on the pet and persist between stays — update the pet record when an owner tells you something has changed, or every future booking repeats the mistake.
